This is a my Up With People Cast E 1983. This was our closing song of our show - "Let The River Flow" - the last time we all played it together. I don't think we all realized what we had just been through during that year and how our lives would be forever impacted from our experiences together. Those of us that were able to make it to the 25 year reunion in Tucson in July found out just how important our year in UWP was to each of us and the 25 years seemed to vanish in a flash.

We had a great time at the Jeff and Jer Thank You party on Aug 22nd at the Manchester Grand Hyatt on San Diego Bay. The Laura Roppe Band came up around 9pm after an intro from Little Tommy. We did Float Away and You Don't ASK and the crowd was very supportive. People told us we were the highlight of the night.

This is the start of something very special with Laura and her music. Can't wait for the next opportunity... whatever that may be!

Just wanted to update everyone on the Laura Roppe CD release that is coming up on August 13, 2008 at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA. The band is fired up and we're ready to go. Laura's music is amazing and I'm so proud to be working with her on this project. She has some big dreams and who knows where it goes but I'll be along for the ride no matter what!

If you're close to Solana Beach, CA on August 13th come on by. We will go on about 9pm for about an hour. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased by clicking here.

The CD is a must listen... Such an incredible mix of songs and musical styles that all came out of this one incredibly talented singer/songwriter and person. To think that this project started out as just a Mom wanting to record her songs for her two daughters. Wow!

UWP E83 - 25 Year Reunion

Well... the reunion has come and gone but what fun we had 25 years later. How cool was it for us that had traveled in 1983 and had staged in Tucson, AZ to be going back to the place that it all started for us. It made a special event even better to know that this was where we all had come together 25 years before for the very first time.

The Westin La Paloma was the perfect location for the reunion. The weather was great... we even got the benefit of a light show in the sky on a couple occasions... and in San Diego we don't see that very often.

The band got to jam a little bit and of course did the Era Show and we kicked every other era's ass that night... no contest! Not that is was a contest... but we WON!

Many thanks go out to the Reunion Organizing Committee for doing a great job. To Mia Hansen for all that she did for us not only for the 4 days of the reunion but for the days, weeks and months spent preparing for this. Great job Mia!

So many others played a part in the sucess of the reunion that I won't start the long list here but to all of you out there here's a big THANK YOU!!!! for making it an AWESOME event.

Now we can start thinking about the next time we can try to get together. Certainly 2013 is on the calendar and that will be a nice carrrot out there but we need to do something sooner and I know things will come up. I can't wait.

The Next Big Star Contest!

Well we made it to the final 4 of the Next Big Star contest on US95.7 in San Diego. The winner will be opening for Kenny Chesney on 5/29 at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheater.

The battle of the final 4 will be held at the Hard Rock in downtown San Diego on 5/27 at 8pm. Each band/act will get 15 minutes to show their stuff. If you live in San Diego come on down and cheer us on!

Who is "us" you might ask. Well I wouldn't have this opportunity if not for the one and only Laura Roppe. She is the lead singer in my band - CoolBandLuke. She has been recording an album of her original material and the opportunity of this contest popped up. She entered one of her songs called "Mama Needs a Girls Night Out". It's a great song and you can hear it along with the other 3 songs that we will do on 5/27 by going to her website http://www.lauraroppe.com/. The rest of the 8 piece band is made up of musicians from throughout Southern CA.

We will find out that night who the winner is as the concert is just 2 nights after that. Stay tuned for the results!

Backing up your hard drive (data) is one of those things that is always something that sounds good to do but it’s such a pain to do consistently. We never think we will need it… until it happens to you and you kick yourself for not backing up all those pictures, documents, school papers and on and on.

The key to any backup is that it’s always current (not a back up from a year ago), preferably offsite (so a fire or flood or something of that nature won’t destroy your backup) and is easy enough to do. After trying multiple backup solutions from DVDr to external HD to other online solutions... I finally found an online solution that it is easy to use, doesn’t cost a ton of $ and best of all you can literally set it and forget it.

Victor Wooten in concert...

Went back to the Belly Up last night to check out Victor Wooten… only the best bass player on the planet! The show was 2 hours of music… lots of new stuff from his cool new CD called Palmystery and some of his other stuff too. His brothers Joseph (Keys) and Reggie (Guitar) were with him along with bass, drums, vocals and a dude from morocco that sang a little and played the violin.

The sound in the Belly Up was ok last night… as a bass player, sound man and having “the ears”, it was hard to find a place in the room that was balanced for me. I did find a spot and settled in. Victor kicked ass… he does things on the bass that us mere mortals have no idea how he does it. Amazing stuff indeed.

He spoke about his bass/nature camp. He has purchased 140 acres near Nashville to now have a permanent home for the camp. Click Here to learn more about it.

All in all it was a great night of music by one cool dude and his family and friends.

Interesting story on Vegas and Broadway West!

Check this out... Vegas was trying to become Broadway West when Spamalot, Hairspray and the like hit the strip. Now Jersey Boys is set to open... but there has been a loss of steam for Broadway in Vegas these days.

I think that if any "Broadway" show can make it in Vegas, Jersey Boys can. I know the next time I'm in Vegas I'm checking it out.
